My Profile

Artist Statement

In my practice, I strive to layer my work with meaning informed by research into subject, location, context, my personal story and observations. I am often drawn to use references to growth, journey, escape, time, combining a transformative use of material to reference re-invention, often exploiting the natural association of my chosen material to strengthen the context of the work and utilising aesthetics of organic movement, fluidity, repetition, layers, energy. I deliberately select processes which require me to make decisions intuitively and instinctively, trusting, evaluating, disrupting, destroying and constructing. I find this creates an immersive process that consciously and unconsciously absorbs me during the creation of the work. I thrive on producing a challenging response to material, space and context.
The diversity of working as both a painter and sculptor feeds my creativity.
